The hardwood flooring choice for you

When it comes to hardwood floors, you have two main options. You can choose to go with a solid hardwood, or you can choose engineered hardwood. Both options have pros and cons associated with them, and it’s likely that one will suit your needs better than the other.

With either option, you get the luxurious look of hardwood that goes with just about any style and décor you happen to have. That means it’s a flooring choice you almost can’t go wrong in making. So, with that in mind, let’s take a closer look at the two choices:

Solid hardwood floors

Solid hardwood is a great choice for those who are choosing a flooring for the long haul. Why? Because its lifespan is so long! In addition to being able to put a protective coating on the surface of the wood, you can also refinish hardwood several times. The process of refinishing your hardwood brings it right back to like-new condition. It’s almost like having a brand new floor put in.

If you’re looking for a flooring option for your basement, however, solid hardwood is not the best option. This flooring is temperamental when it comes to humidity, moisture and changes in temperature. Subjected to either of those, there’s a chance that it could warp, crack or split, and we know you don’t want that.

Engineered hardwood flooring

With engineered hardwood, you get some of the same benefits you get from solid wood. The elegant look is still there, thanks to a top of real wood veneer, that will go with any home furnishing. You even get a wide array of choices when it comes to picking your favorite species, such as hickory, oak, maple and more.

The biggest benefit of engineered wood is the freedom you have in where you have it installed. Unlike solid wood, engineered wood can easily be placed in the basement. It doesn’t have the likelihood of taking on damage due to temperature or humidity changes.

The biggest drawback lies in the refinishing. The thickness determines the number of times you can refinish this floor, but even at its thickest, you can only refinish it twice at most.
